Welcome to the main page of the 12th Energetic Particle Physics Topical Group Meeting of the International Tokamak Physics Activity (ITPA) that will take place in Madrid (Spain) at the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) from 31st March to 3rd April 2014.
The primary focus of the meeting will be to review and discuss the progress and plans of the high priority research issues in the areas of energetic particle physics that can have an impact on ITER, following the work plan approved at the last IEA/ITPA Workshop in December 2011. In particular, emphasis is placed on fast particle driven instabilities and their consequences, fast ion losses resulting from non-axisymmetric magnetic fields, and fast particle losses caused by background MHD.
Particular attention will be given to the following topics:
- IEA/ITPA joint experiments
- Evaluating the fast ion stability in ITER and its consequences
- Modelling the non-linear evolution of Alfvén Eigenmodes and its validation /benchmark
- Assessing the effect of non-axisymmetric magnetic fields on fast ion confinement and loss
- Studying the interaction of fast ions with background MHD
- Control of Alfvén Eigenmodes
- Discussion on the ITER diagnostics for fast particles
In addition, the following topics will be discussed and appropriate actions taken:
- Short presentations on relevant areas not covered by the above high priority discussions
- Discussion on the venue of the future meeting(s)
